Finding the perfect match

I'm sure most everyone has read a romantic story or watched a comedy which has a lovely story about 2 partners finding one another. One of those tale of how they get along like a house on fire and just flat out revel in being around the other person...well, every so often a horse sale goes just that smoothly and the horse adores their person from the first interaction! (and what fun it is to be a part of the process of matchmaking!)

So without any more fuss or flowery language, let's all congratulate Doug of Dark Horse Stables in PA on the purchase of Avebury WF!!! "Dillon" and Doug are building a big trust bond at the moment but the summer and fall will involve some jumper competitions and then there is a trek to Wellington, FL for the winter circuit!

If you've ever wondered what kind of horse is actually a ___warmblood, this website is a handy dandy tool to be able to accurately look up their bloodlines*.


So if you've ever wondered how to look up a pedigree to see who is who, bloodlines and what percentage of Thoroughbred blood our wonderful Waldaire carried - HERE is his pedigree.

You'll see he carries just 25.78% blood (listed as xx/ox or TB/Anglo Arab) - which is part of why he crosses so well on mares that are more "blooded" or full TB or Arabian.

I can not explain how valuable a website like this one is, really. For one, it is secure - which means only members can login and enter data (no monkey business or fibbing). Secondly, it does the mathematical calculations and can be used to go back multiple generations. Third, it is secure. If I had a nickel for every time I've had to login to Allbreedpedigree and remove a Gotland Pony from Waldaire's 6th generation....my bank balance would be healthier. ;)

* - only caveat - this is a database that is based out of Holland and Germany. Many North American bred horses are not listed, so pedigrees will appear incomplete.

Again and Again - in a nutshell, he produced many successful FEI dressage horses, A show hunters, event horses from limited foal crops and was himself a very successful Grand Prix horse. Other full siblings were Jackie Blue (Showjumper in LA Olympics for Canada), Rushton (success Working Hunter) and

Adamant - a successful Small Tour horse with the steady Eddy temperament that consistently passed along to his offspring. Sire of multiple event horses, Colt 45 (Champion on the line at DHS), FEI dressage and event horses, field hunters and a massive list of horses started, trained and competed by their AA owners/breeders.

Waldaire - consistent competitor through the levels up to and including Grand Prix post colic surgery. Sire of Wilona WF who has just claimed the Side Saddle Championship in a tough hack-off in her first outing at The Devon Horse Show. Woot! Woot! Big Breeder Brag!!

Big Congratulations are in order for the entire Gartland Family!!! Wilona WF (Waldaire x As You Wish WF by Adamant) is the 2015 Ladies Side Saddle Champion of the Devon Horse Show!!!! She was shown beautifully by the wonderful Susan Sisco of Sunfield Farm (now in Aiken, SC). There is a great interview with Sue in this Devon Newsletter. Please take a few moments and read the rider feedback! We're so proud to have another generation of homebred out and about in top company!

Also in the Dixon Oval - Wilona's dam - As You Wish WF! She took a break from her busy eventing career to put in a very nice round for The A Team in the Hunt Teams Class Saturday Night! Sara and Kitty brought home a very, very respectable Fourth Place amid a big group of competitors!!! 

This is TLF Wicked (by Wizard WF out of In A Dream xx) at her first show after only a few weeks of undersaddle training! Congratulations to all of "Olive's" connections!!!

Website hiccup and new videos

Slowly, very slowly I am adjusting to Mavericks (the Apple OS) which is not as user friendly as Snow Leopard was. Unfortunately.

I am sad to report the demise of my entire library of photos from 2009 on iPhoto as well as a massive problem finding/sorting and using my current images on the iPhone. Ditto videos. Oh and iMovie changed as well. If that were not frustrating enough, there are issues with the FTP publisher on Network Solutions, so all the revisions and updates for the website are sitting unpublished on my hard drive.

Price reductions on our green beans!

OK, one of our regular riders is out for several months, so we have several horses that are for sale at reduced prices which do not reflect their quality and potential. It is the reality that they need to be in training and our days are too full to fit more riding into the schedule.

Westerleigh WF (aka Joy) - $14,000 until May 1st (then I will have figured out cloning with a good ankle and she could get the jump schooling she needs to go on as a show hunter). Last Fall she was WTC, single flying changes, lateral work and doing small grids and cavaletti.

Wallstreet Rose (Gretta) - $2500
Last year she was WTC, lateral work, had XC training prior to being a super broodmare for us. Fancy, light to the aids and smart. Easy keeper, easy breeder, not an Alpha, superb mother.

Wendolyn WF (Lynnie) - $8000 firm

Started last summer/fall with 60 days undersaddle. WTC, lunging, basic chute work, still growing at 15.3, should mature to 16.1 +/-. Went back to work this week and it's like she never missed a day. Very, very smart and fancy.

Windrose WF (Bailey) - $7000

Started last fall (60 days), needs an experienced rider as she is a talented athletic horse with big gaits. Massive stride and powerful hind end, good prospect for top levels. Still maturing at 16.0 hands, should max out 16.2.

Waverleigh WF (Izzy) - $3500

Has basic ground work but growing like a lanky girl can. Needs maturing time - should finish 17.0 hands. Elegant and powerful mover with strong character.
