There was a clinic here the other day...
Gosh it has been a busy week! It is almost hard to believe that it is only Thursday and a hot one at that!
So I'll start with the huge list of THANK YOU's...
Thank you to Catherine for coming to our farm. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, skill as a trainer and unmatched ability to explain to both rider's and auditors what needs to be happening for the horse and rider to 'Get Connected'!
Thank you to all of our riders for their hard work!
Thank you to Bill Alphin (A&A Photography) for shooting photos of all of the riders.
Thank you to Bob Conklin (Conklin Photographic) for taking even more photos of the riders. Bob also brought the killer Blueberry pie that some folks got a piece of...homemade, organic, made with love - just sublime!
Thank you to Stubben N.A. for sending the ever-so-awesome Keith Brooks to us to offer riders and trainers insight into saddle fitting and what Stubben has to offer.
Thank you to Theault America for sending The Morpheus and Marc to illuminate our attendees with all that Theault has incorporated into their superior horse transport system! I think it is safe to say that we all want one!!!
Thank you to the AWR for sending Sonja to us for the day! She had a constant stream of inquiries throughout the day - so hopefully people left with a greater understanding of what an American Warmblood really is!
Thank you to Sandro, Poncho and the rest of the guys for all of the hard work that went into helping us get the farm ready for so many visitors!
Thank you to Pat & Ric for the use of their TIGHAR sun shade canopy tents!
Thank you to Karin for the use of your cooler, tent and the million and one things you always do to help us keep things organized!!!
Our sincere apologies for the dust in the arena go out to the riders, auditors and most especially Catherine. There has been more than the 'usual' amount of chaos going on as of late, so it was very much a case of 'best laid plans going awry.' If we are every lucky enough to have an opportunity to have Catherine back in the area, we will be looking to rent/borrow a full sized indoor arena with full mirrors and perfect footing. So if you would happen to have such a facility and you are interested in having Catherine teach you...speak up!
Regardless, thank you to everyone who made this day possible!

Clinic reminder!
We've gotten a number of calls and emails about the Catherine Haddad Staller Clinic next week - which is great! But please remember, it is on MONDAY the 25th!!!!!!
So with that in mind, we are ordering our menu items today (Friday), please give Ellie@watermark-farm.net a heads up. We would hate to not have enough food for everyone that audits.

Beyond that bit of nagging, we have an exciting line up for learning! Stubben N.A. will be on site to discuss your saddle fitting needs. Theault America is sending their Morpheus Eurovan! Lots to see and learn! Don't miss this super opportunity to gain insight into not just horse training for the FEI levels, but all areas of all things HORSE! :)

Some student feedback to share with everyone!
One of mom's longtime students sent a lovely email for us to share with you all...
"Dear Anne and Ellie, I have come to your Farm for a number of years now with both Kordi-Bear and The Bunder-Boy.
I just wanted you to know about the AURA that I have felt each time when we drive in. I see soft blues and pinks ---all warm
fuzzies of a soft RAINBOW. I love watching the training, and I LOVE taking my lessons with ANNE -- and training my own
horses there. I love learning more and more, and my horses have been so peaceful and comfortable at Your Watermark !!!
This goes in ALL weather ---any SEASON. The footing in the indoor and outer ring are superb.... I ride really well when I'm
there exhibiting such a positive atmosphere........
THANK YOU for sharing WATERMARK FARM with me and my horses.... ONWARD and UPWARD,,, LUV, STEPHI"

9800 FANS!
Ok, I'll start with the THANK YOU portion of this post...
THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts to all of our fans and friends on Facebook for the support, the comments, the LIKES and feedback about our farm and horses. We passed 9800 Fans yesterday and it is very exciting to think how close 10,000 really is. So take a second and think about that...almost 10,000 people have taken a second or 2 and clicked LIKE on our fan page. Just amazing!
Thank you all so very much.
As the not quite so serious part of the post, please take a few minutes out of your day and enjoy this segment of the Colbert Report as he discusses the Romney's and dressage! So with an enthusiastic "WOOOOOOOO" break out your foam fingers, root for the home team (US Dressage), wear a ball cap and go to your local, regional or national show and cheer for the athletes who work so hard to get there!!!!
Half pass me a beer!!!!! COLBERTDRESSAGENATION WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
:-D Happy Riding!

Some schooling photos and some thoughts
I'll start this post with a bit of personal reflection...last year I was browsing about on Facebook (which I know some people are not all excited about) and a link came up for an opening/timeslot for a clinic with Catherine Haddad-Staller. I was in a slump from attempting to rehab my bum ankle and the horses were fresh as daisies, so it was a 'Why Not?' sort of decision as we had seen Catherine rock it out at Dressage at Devon the previous fall on Winyamaro. So we loaded up Wyatt, the working student and made the 6 hour trek to VA.
One superduperfantasticaloutrageoustupendous hour later, I talked with Stubben N.A. who was onsite, made a commitment to change my riding, my position and tough it out.
Sort of one of those moments when you know there are big changes to make in your life - you know it when you feel/see/hear/taste it, take a deep breath, grab your checkbook and don't look back. :) Since Catherine teaches from the same manual that mom has raised me under, it all makes perfect sense, the horses understand the language, and it flat out WORKS. The horses are happy - that is the best part!
In the late summer, we journeyed up to Hawk Hollow Ranch in NJ and got more help from Catherine (aka The Big Boss). I'm going to confess - I'm like an addict and if it was possible, I would go live in her barn to be like a sponge and soak up all she has to teach. :) If you think it is silly, well, you don't understand how hard it is to find a trainer who speaks the same language and how refreshing it is to have your natural instincts reinforced consistently.
Autumn saw us making the trek to Randi's one more time for the acquisition of 'homework' and then winter arrived. The horses stayed in full work, the training has progressed and we saw TBB in April. That clinic was extra fun as she was kind and rode Wizard for a few minutes!
So now it's June 2012, I'm Stubben-ed up with my Genesis Special, the horses are going better than I ever anticipated and I am beginning to think it is time to compete them - which means competitions are a few months away barring any injury for us.
Wyatt June 4th |
So that's a bit of wrap up of the last year. There are more photos here in the blog and summaries of the clinics with Catherine, if you want to scroll back to see what we've gotten up to under her watchful eye. And if she's in your area teaching - get thee to the arena and AUDIT!
